LeFH-18

105mm Howitzer

Light Field Howitzer - 18

Our unit has 2 LeFH-18's. One of the backbones of the German field artillery, the 105mm (10.5cm) LeFH-18 was used throughout the war. Built by Rheinmetall originally, the first prototypes were ready in 1935. Updated continuously, our 2 examples are late-war dual-purpose guns. Fitted with Muzzle Brakes, they were designed to fire both high explosive rounds in a traditional artillery role, as well as armor piercing shot in an anti-tank role. In fact, their ballistic performance is impressive, as they could penetrate over 3.5 inches of 30 degree sloped armor at a range of 1,500 meters. These were the same guns mounted on the Sturmgeschutz StuH 42 and Leichte Feldhaubitze 18/2 auf Fahrgestell PzKpfw II (SF) Wespe (Wasp) SdKfz 124.

Weighing nearly 5,000 pounds each, the provide a very stable firing platform, and had an effective rate of fire of between 6-10 rounds per minute, depending on the crews ability. With an artillery range of nearly 7.5 miles, our guns give us the ability to reach out and touch someone on the reenacting battlefield.
